Durham Part time college educated Nanny for 3- and 6-year-olds. Afternoons M-F to start this school year. JOB 179

Family is looking for a Part-Time Nanny in Durham (20 hours per week) in the afternoons M-F from 1:30-5:30pm, but have some flexibility with the exact hours starting mid-August.

The Family has two children, a son aged 3.5 and a daughter who is 6.5 years old.  Their older child will be in 1st grade and have after-school activities several afternoons per week (there will be some pick-up/drop-off duties for her).  Their son will be attending pre-school in the mornings with an aide until 12:30pm and he typically naps for 1-3 hours after lunch.

He was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder and has some cognitive and physical mobility impairments as well as sensorineural deafness.  He uses a self-powered wheelchair, has had cochlear implants for 2 years, and they use Total Communication Methods (a mix of American Sign Language, spoken language and an assistive tap-to-talk communication device).  He is a happy, social, determined and loving boy and does not have any behavioral issues.

Caregiving responsibilities would include: school/activity pickups and dropoffs, creating engaging activities suitable for both children equally despite their range in development and abilities, trips to parks/museums/pool, child laundry during naps, and snack prep and feeding after nap.

They are looking for a Nanny with the following qualifications:

  • College educated
  • Clean driving record
  • Genuine interest in and commitment to learning Augmentative Communication methods while on the job (e.g., sign language, tap-to-talk device)
  • Ability to regularly lift 30-35 pounds (Their son will need to be assisted in and out of wheelchair, car seats, bed, etc.)
  • Warm, loving, and passionate about bonding with and helping special needs children
  • Energetic; strong communicator; proactive in identifying and creating new experiences for their son to grow and develop

Position Responsibilities

Two children, 3.5 boy and 6.5 years girl. The primary caregiving responsibility would be for the 3.5-year-old.

Cooking and Laundry:  For the Children

Position Requirements

Schedule: Monday – Friday 20 hours per week, in the afternoons 1:30-5:30pm (Flexible)

Languages: English

Experience: One of the following: Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Augmentative Communication (e.g. sign language, picture boards)

References: Minimum of 2 References

Background: Pass a stringent background check

Personality Traits: Kind, nurturing, creative, engaging, organized, energetic, punctual, and communicative

Position Compensation

Pay: $20-$25 hourly
